Let’s Go Shopping: Stamford, Connecticut

Before the July 4th holiday, we made our way through a mini monsoon to Stamford, Connecticut. Home to the fitting title, “Antique Capitol of America”, we found gems a plenty at places like the Antique and Artisan Center, Hamptons Antique Galleries and Greenwich Living Antiques. Take a look at some of our finds!

One of the Joys of Being Your Own Boss…

It’s certainly not the mundane things like doing paperwork, meeting with the accountant, or filing taxes…it’s the hour you unexpectedly find you have free! So on Friday when we found ourselves blissfully without obligation and near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we very happily ducked in for a couple of hours to see old favorites and The Emperor’s Private Paradise: Treasures from the Forbidden City exhibition. Here are just a few of the things that we love and inspire us at the Met (with apologies for the not fantastic Iphone photos):

Love the color and pattern combination.

We always wonder what the person who got to sit and play at this piano must have been thinking when their fingers hit the keys.

We love the rooms filled with these Grecian urns–simply fantastic.

A favorite Georgia O’Keefe painting.

From the Pre-Columbian wing; feather panels with an amazingly modern design.

This little silver elephant makes us smile every time we see him.

Pair of earrings we’d love to make copies of!

Jim Denevan

As we awake to a snowy New York City, we can’t stop thinking about artist Jim Denevan’s hauntingly beautiful images of the frozen surface of Siberia’s Lake Baikal. As he captures nature’s fleeting moments, his work exposes the simple, yet arresting beauty of the natural world.

Sold!

‘Tis the season…auction season! We love to peruse the plethora of unique offerings at the auctions around town. Today, Wright 21′s Important Design auction is chalk full of covetable finds. Come on…what could be a better gift than an Important Design piece for an Important person in your life?

YouTube Play

AP Photo/Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

This past weekend, the Guggenheim Museum exhibited 25 finalists from its YouTube Play collaboration, which sought to discover the “most creative video in the world.” Although the videos–judged by a panel including performance artist Laurie Anderson, the music group Animal Collective and filmmaker Darren Aronofsky–were only on view this weekend in NYC, they can still be seen online (of course) on YouTube.com/play. Here are a few of our favs:
