This past weekend, the Guggenheim Museum exhibited 25 finalists from its YouTube Play collaboration, which sought to discover the “most creative video in the world.” Although the videos–judged by a panel including performance artist Laurie Anderson, the music group Animal Collective and filmmaker Darren Aronofsky–were only on view this weekend in NYC, they can still be seen online (of course) on YouTube.com/play. Here are a few of our favs:

Put down whatever you are doing and go check out Pates Tapes. This is a friend of a friend’s site who organized 1000+ hours of an amazing personal music collection recorded from vinyl, tape, and digital into mixtapes that you can listen to for free! Hits>The Old Man Down The Road and Rhythm N Blues>I Can’t Stand the Rain are a few current favs.

This eye popping combination of craftsmanship and artistry, combined with the simplicity of well curated modern pieces is the perfect dessert to cap off this beautiful Labor Day weekend. We love how the ornate fresco paintings on the walls, ceilings and doors, perfectly define the spaces. The genius is in the restraint of juxtaposing such elaborateness with modern, sleek furniture.
