Green with envy…

Despite having lived in New York City for going on 14 years now, I have yet to get used to the winters here. Chalk that up to the Southerner in me. February is especially brutal and I find the only way to get through it is to head to warmer destinations whenever my schedule allows. I recently spent a few days in Los Angeles and was so happy to be able to be hike in the mornings and to spend time outdoors. I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired by all shades of green…!

When in Vicenza, Italy…

This past August my sister moved from Germany to Vicenza in northern Italy. Always happy for an excuse to escape during winter months, I didn’t think twice when she asked me to come visit over the Thanksgiving holiday to help her get settled into her new home. Her apartment is located in the heart of Vicenza in a beautiful old historic building and it was hard not to be jealous of the space: 2,000 sq feet, three gorgeous marble bathrooms, a kitchen big enough for us to cook together, and a massive light-filled living room with space to host 50 people comfortably.
I think she was worried I wouldn’t leave.

We had a list of things we were searching for to finish up the apartment and the Italian ‘flea’ markets proved a great place to do that. Less ‘flea’ than most markets I’m used to–on the second Sunday of every month antique dealers come from all over Italy come to set up shop in central Vicenza. Amidst ancient Palladian buildings and a mass of locals, stalls upon stalls of old furs, art, furniture, objet, jewelry, and a wealth of other unique items await perusing. Afterwards, it was great fun visit some of the delicious restaurants and wine bars located just off the main piazza for a leisurely lunch and afternoon spritz.

Home to twenty-three Andrea Palladio buildings, this was one of my favorites in Vicenza. I can imagine being very content spending long, leisurely days on this portico.

New Year, New Inspirations…

Given the weather in New York City, it’s proving the perfect day to spend indoors sourcing inspiration for a new project.

Always find Willem de Kooning’s paintings a perfect place to start…

This vintage sofa is a must for the project!

And this rug…

Gorgeous Goatskin Console by Aldo Tura for the entry

Have been dying to use these fabulous Bowl Sconces by Apparatus Studio in a project!

And these ‘modern Egyptian’ armchairs with a mohair cushion…

Wall color inspiration from paints circa 1807. All of them are perfection, but particularly love number 35.

Saturday Shopping with 1stDibs…

1stDibs is one of my favorite places to source furnishings, art, and objet for clients–so it was great fun to be asked to curate one of their Saturday Shopping sales. With no particular project in mind, no budget to think about, I was free to go through the entire site to select a few of my (many) favorite things. Truly, anything you could ever imagine wanting you can find on 1stDibs. It’s often the first place I start to gather ideas for a new project. Below is a snapshot of some of the things I chose; see the rest here.
